This sounds fun to me. What do you all think of the mixed dorm? - Nancy

OMG...has anyone seen the reviews of the India House online? It sounds a bit worrisome. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60864-d288642-Reviews-India_House_Hostel-New_Orleans_Louisiana.html or http://www.hostelz.com/hostel/3557-India-House-Backpackers-Hostel --Annie

Annie- thanks for checking this out. I had not gotten that far yet. I am with you on the NMRT hotel room. I've been to hostel overseas before, but I don't think that's what i want for this conference. - nancy snydern at apsu edu

Probably not the image you'd want to present to your peers but doubt you'd go home with the cooties. You have to be good climbing in and out of the upper bunk bed without a ladder, which is a trick in itself. Found out they don't supply towels or soap. --kristin

Here's a map to the Convention Center from Kerlerec House.

Here's a map to the Convention Center from India House and here's the text from their email reply:

Hello -- We have the room and would be happy to have you stay with us. The easiest way to reserve is to go online -- www.indiahousehostel.com -- and reserve with a credit card. If your organization requires an invoice or you would prefer to pay by check you should give DJ, our manager, a call at 504.821.1904 Update Concerning security of stuff, etc. "We have lockers (your folks need to bring their own locks) and we can hold valuables in our safe at the front desk. Only guests in the room have keys to that particular dorm, so its very possible that you will be the only ones in a particular dorm (6-8 guests). Thanks."

Here's the hotel map (.pdf) from ALA -- note that India House is a significant ~12 blocks from the nearest ALA Shuttle hotel stop (which is at either the Crowne Plaza, the Chateau Sonesta, or the NMRT hotel (Renaissance Pere Marquette). However, the Canal/Cemetaries Streetcar Line runs right to the Hilton New Orleasns Riverside (HQ hotel) from the corner next to India House.
